CHEME7900 Seminar: Gunther Hollopeter (Cornell)

Worshipping at the Altar of Jowls to Understand Membrane-Associated Machinery

Our research delineates the inner workings of membrane-associated protein complexes using C. elegans genetics, live imaging, and biochemical assays. We have discovered two classes of proteins-NECAPs and muniscins-that act in opposition to regulate the clathrin adaptor complex AP2 during endocytosis. These allosteric modulators allow us to investigate how cells select endocytic sites and cargo for internalization.

Bio: Gunther Hollopeter completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Washington and his Ph.D. at the University of California, San Francisco. After postdoctoral training at the University of Utah and the Stowers Institute, he joined the molecular medicine faculty at Cornell in 2015 and was promoted to associate professor in 2022.
