Energy Engineering Seminar: Marguerite Wells ’99 (ACE NY)

Bio: Marguerite Wells ’99 serves as the executive director. She joined the Alliance for Clean Energy New York team in April 2024.

Wells has established herself as a powerhouse in the renewable energy industry. Most recently, she headed up Invenergy’s New York development office for seven years. As one of the first Invenergy employees in the New York market, her team of 19 employees had a portfolio of 2,000 MW of wind, solar, and battery storage projects in New York in permitting. Prior to joining Invenergy, Wells developed Black Oak Wind Farm, a 16 MW wind project in central New York where she crowdfunded $3 million in community investment to develop the project. She also has an entrepreneurial background. In 2005, she built and eventually sold Motherplants, a green roof plant nursery business that has supplied many of the green roofs built in NYS.

Wells is a fifth-generation New Yorker and a 1999 graduate of Cornell with a bachelor’s degree in animal science and natural resources. She got her master’s in environmental sustainability back before anyone had heard the word “sustainability” from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
