Biography
Mostafa Hassani is an Assistant Professor jointly within the Sibley School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at Cornell. Prior to that, he completed a Senior Research Associate and Lecturer appointment at Cornell, a Post-doctoral appointment at MIT, and a Ph.D. degree at Politecnico di Milano.
Research Interests
Mostafa’s research lies at the intersection of solid mechanics, structural materials, and advanced manufacturing. His research group develops and applies in-situ experimental approaches to study the deformation and failure mechanisms of structural materials under extreme conditions, including ultrahigh strain rates, elevated temperatures, and small length scales. His group also leverages extreme solid-state deformation to enable novel advanced manufacturing and processing routes for metals, alloys, and composites. By combining experiments, theory, and modeling, his research establishes process-microstructure-property relationships for a broad range of structural materials and advanced manufacturing processes.
