Note: This page provides a general overview. For complete and accurate information, please consult the Assistant Director. For current course offerings and information, refer to the Cornell University Registrar: Courses of Study.
Degree Requirements
Our 2-semester program requires completion of 32 credit hours in major and supporting areas along with a project. This generally corresponds to nine regular courses and two one-credit seminars. The M.Eng. degree can be completed in two semesters.
Students who prefer a longer timeline may choose a 3-semester option, which allows additional time for electives, specialization, and professional development and requires a total of 42 credits to graduate.

Capstone Project
All students must complete a capstone project and register for ENMGT 5910 in their final semester. Management responsibilities in a technical environment, and increasingly in many business environments, are often focused on projects, where a combination of resources must be brought together to achieve a specific outcome within both schedule and budget constraints. The importance of projects is reflected in this program through a strong focus on project management – the combination of people skills and technical skills necessary for successful project completion. Project topics and sponsors are presented to students in ENMGT 5910 early in the semester. Students rank their preferences and teams are formed. Some project sponsors require Assignments of Intellectual Property Rights and/or Non-disclosure Agreements in order to participate in their projects.
Electives
In addition to the required courses, each student’s program must select elective courses to provide a track area of specialization.
We offer seven areas of specialization, plus a “build your own track”, tied to common career paths of Engineering Management degree graduates.
Specialization Tracks
- Entrepreneurship and Product Management
- Consulting
- Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics
- Engineering Leadership
- Real Estate and Construction Management
- Sustainability and Renewable Energy
- Entrepreneurship and Product Management
- Infrastructure in a Changing World
- “Build your own”
You are welcome to mix and match courses from different headings or choose courses aligned with your own interests to best serve your professional goals. Any 5000 or 6000-level, letter-graded course may be considered. A complete list of pre-approved electives for each track is in the Engineering Management On-Campus Handbook.
