Engineering Management Program Formats
With two engaging and robust ways to earn your M.Eng. degree, choose the right pace and place for you.
-
On-Campus (Ithaca) Program
Our on-campus M.Eng. students increase their technical depth through coursework, team projects, and dynamic class discussions. Beyond the classroom, you will have access to resources across campus like the S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management Immersion Program, as well as centers for entrepreneurship and venture development to help grow your business ideas and connect with others in industry.
Choose from completing your M.Eng. in just two semesters of intensive study or opt for a three-semester version for added flexibility to align with your career goals.
-
Distance Learning (Online) Program
Designed for working STEM professionals, our distance learning program is both online and asynchronous to allow students to continue working full-time. The course content is punctuated with one-week intensive sessions on campus in Ithaca, N.Y. once a year. You will form an intimate cohort of fewer than 50 high-potential engineering leaders.
Each cohort has its own online community where learners can interact with their classmates and advisors outside of class. As working professionals, students bring a diverse set of experiences to the cohort. Students find enormous value in the opportunity to get to know, to share with, and to learn from one another outside the context of their courses.
Is engineering management right for me?
-
“I’m not sure my STEM background is ‘engineering enough.'”
Our students come from varied STEM fields: computer science, data science, aerospace, systems, industrial engineering, and more. If you have a bachelor’s degree in any STEM field you may be eligible to apply. Schedule a free consultation with us to learn more.
-
“Will I really be able to balance work, life, and coursework?”
With on-campus and online program options, you can choose the right pace for you. Most distance learning students work full time, studying in the evenings and one weekend day, keeping the other day free. Students find that the skills they’re learning apply immediately to their current work, making the time investment feel even more worthwhile.
-
“Is online learning really the same quality as on-campus?”
Yes. You’ll work with the same Cornell faculty, complete the same rigorous curriculum, and earn the same degree. The annual week-long residential intensive ensures you get hands-on learning and face-to-face time. You’re not missing out—you’re gaining flexibility while maintaining Cornell’s academic excellence.
-
“Will I actually build meaningful connections in an online program?”
Absolutely. Your cohort is intentionally small (fewer than 50 students), which creates an intimate learning environment. You’ll have a dedicated online community, work on team projects, and spend a week together on campus each year. Many students say the professional network they build is one of the most valuable aspects of the program.
